Baby, it's dark outside--

I made a Thanksgiving garland, and of course there's no light today, but I did my best to shoot it anyway because, well, I love to share stuff with you. It's made from wool felt and a little bit of the old junky acrylic I had left from the "cheap is best" days of crafting when I couldn't sew diddly squat (about six months ago, if I'm being honest). I think this would be a fun and inexpensive project if you just used all cheap stuff, but I don't know how long it would hold up. You can't see the colors very well, but I used browns, orange, a nice maize-y yellow, a little bit of a dusty-rosish color, dark and light greens, and two shades of red. I cut circles in two sizes, and I sewed some of the smaller circles onto the bigger circles, so I ended up with three types of circles--the doubled up ones and then just plain larger and plain smaller circles. They are machine sewn onto a very cheap, narrow, brown satin ribbon I got at the fabric store for, I think, two for a dollar. I sewed the circles in a random pattern, some very close together, sometimes with a little space. I think it's very mod and yet homey at the same time. It brightened up the dining room for our t-day celebration (and that's tofurky day 'round these parts, folks).
It was my sister's first vegetarian thanksgiving, and she ate it with relish (you know, aplomb, not the stuff made out of pickles), bless her soul. She also joined in on our goofy thanksgiving tradition of actually saying what we're thankful for. (We didn't do that at our house growing up, what with the dozens of relatives milling around trying to steal each others' silverware. We just gnawed whatever turkey we could get our hands on and tried not to inhale too much cigarette smoke. Ah, menthol, the scent of nostalgia.) Among her list were soda and tights. Here, here!

Cute garland!
Last night we hosted our first Officially Turkey-Free Thanksgiving (not even tofurkey). I'm thankful for the friends and family who came anyway : )

Oh, good for you! I could easily go without the tofurky, but it's become an essential part of the holiday for Annabelle, so I just steel my jaw and start chewing. :-)

I'm just saying on a crappy day, put on some tights and drink a soda...the worries disappear. True story.

Word.

(How come you took your little story down? I liked it. I didn't leave a comment, though, because I was afraid it'd scare you off.)

1. Because it didn't mesh with the rest of the blog.
2. I'm not a writer, I didn't want people to think I was trying to pull that off. I'm not.
