In which I compare applique to childbirth. Really?

I make a tiny hoop. I get a giant mess. Doesn't this somehow violate the laws of physics?
It makes me think of those days following the birth of a wee baby (a phrase that calls to mind my lovely Scottish midwife, who, trying to prevent me hyperventilating during labor, kept saying "blow into the wee bag")--the world's smallest person wrecking the whole house, or at least incapacitating the full-sized residents to the point where they're unable to keep things tidy, I guess. I'm not sure what my excuse is now. Short attention span? Artistic license? Whatever. At least felt messes are pretty!

my messes are often far out of proportion to the created object. I agree, felt messes are pretty, much prettier than, say, cotton or other woven fabric messes. Other pretty craft messes (in my book, anyway): beads, buttons, and crayons/pencils scattered around. Clay in the carpet, not so much.

Love that tiny hoop--especially how the leaves extend a bit onto the hoop itself--darling!

our craft messes also seem to become enormous when compared to our projects. Unfortunately we often have the same problem when farming, gardening and cooking.

Thank you for sharing your craft. Your appliques are lovely!

I'm having my first craft stall next week so I am currently surrounded by the mother of all messes - I've lost count of the number of projects in progress at the minute and the floor is covered with thread! Lots of colourful felt snippets here too, so all is well :-)

dottycookie--good luck! I know getting ready for a craft sale is LOADS of work, so you're entitled to make as many messes as you want!

I hear ya! I cut paper for 30 minutes for a collage...then I'm finding bits and pieces of it around the house for days. I sware the bits cuddle in a corner and multiply!

i couldn't even show my desk... ugh. i go and go, and then i can't stand to look at it and start crafting in the other room. then i realize that is silly, and i have to clean it up.

i'm enjoying reading your other blog... and your sister's. hope you don't mind me snooping:)

Snoop away, Cary!

Artists aren't supposed to be 'neat' right? There's genius lurking in the chaos and chasing it away with tidiness is not advisable :)

Fabric messes are the best- especially when you go out into public and after several hours realize you have snips of fabric and swirls of thread on your shirt

Melissa Crowe said...

Oh my gosh, Julia--I am constantly covered in threads!

So I recently started reading your blog, but as I am lame I only just now realized that I have been loving your Etsy shop for like, a year now. You are Little Pink House!
Sheesh!

Melissa Crowe said...

Frieda--yes! But I don't make it easy, giving myself so many names, right? ;-)
