Yup--I spend a lot of my time cutting circles from felt. It's fairly meditative. I listen to Radio Lab while I go, learning about the multiple universes or the properties of sperm, all the while my pile of circles growing--larger and more colorful.Today I'm preparing to make a pair of sachets. It's raining like crazy outside, which I imagine will mean flowers, many, many flowers in the weeks to come. First rain, then flowers. Sometimes we need to repeat such a mantra to get through the days without sun.

I always thought there must be some magical automatic way to cut felt circles that I didn't know about. I bought a Olfa circle cutter but it won't go below a certain size. I've tried using paper punches, and no luck. Then I tried to research leather punches, but couldn't find one. You do such lovely work, BTW.
Thanks to you both--and Larissa, people ask me all the time how I cut those circles, and I just have to tell them I do it the hard way, ;-)
What do you do with all of your circles?
Anne--I use them to make flowers on various projects, little garden scenes on hoops, the flowers that decorate sachets, etc. They're quite useful!
I love that photo. It's so sweet and colorful and darling and makes me want to cut circles out of felt. ;) Love it.
Thanks, Robyn!
Looking forward to seeing those sachets! ~karen
Circles make me happy. Maybe I'll cut some circles today...
I love Radio Lab and felt, but some reason circles I find to be creepy. I don't know why. But the first thing I saw when I looked at that photo was "how creepy!" and I had to remind myself that there is nothing creepy about bright colored felt circles.
first rain, then flowers
first rain, then flowers
first rain, then flowers
a mantra for more then just outside clouds, i must say.
Alli--you made me laugh out loud!
E--AMEN.
I have never tried, but I know people using something like this:

There are in different sizes and you can cut 4 or 5 layers of felt at the same time :)

Ok. I understand that you cut all those circles by hand, without a gadget. Next question: do you draw around something round to get them that even? Or stamp onto the fabric? You see, I am still searching for the best way to cut lots and lots of circles without going crazy. You obviously manage that!Greetings from Germany
Hi, Claudia--I don't trace anything, but that would be an entirely reasonable way to do it! I just cut them free hand.
Thanks for your reply Melissa. You have my full admiration - cutting out circles by hand! And they actually turn out to be round. I think I should practice more! Wish you a beautiful day!
