Disappearing Things

Maybe the poem speaks for itself, but in case it doesn't, I mean this:
A girl (my girl) who eats her lunch in the (new-to-us) back garden, with a book and...
...three stuffed animals for company (a bear, a turtle, and a flying squirrel). A girl of eleven who might be a very different girl awfully soon. Those of you with children this age--and those of you on my poetic wavelength!--will understand this uncharacteristically (for me) wistful moment, I know.

Thanks, ladies. And E.--you're right. I have a Pullip doll in my studio that says I haven't completely grown out of my toys. ;-)

I don't yet have a daughter that age - mine's still in the thick of it - 4 1/2. But I feel acutely aware that this age will end, and another will replace it. A beautiful poem, and such a precious, painful thing.

Yes. It's bitter sweet, this transformation from child to woman, isn't it? Beautiful words on every level. Lots of love, Amanda xxx

Yes. I have had my 11 y.o. cousin visiting this summer and she too is in this delicate place between stuffed animals and tweendom. She and my 7 y.o. are the best of buds right now, but I feel the moment is fleeting.

Once again, beautifully captured Melissa!

What a great documentation of this (your) girl at that particular moment. Time goes so quickly & the changes are fast. Thank heaven for grandchildren, I get to see these moments in them, some that I may have missed or forgotten from the time my son was so young. Thank you for showing these photos.

Lovely post. Having two daughters with the younger one turning thirteen this month, I feel the sentiment so well. [De-lurking to say hello and show my 'heart' for your work!].
