My girl's been busy. Like me, she hates boredom worse than a toothache, so she finds projects in likely and unlikely places--in the case of the first photo up there, she found a must-do task in a pair of dirty old sneakers. Those are her new, pink, crocheted laces (and she made turquoise ones for me, too!).

And then there's this--a very
Science-0f-Sleep-esque, hand-sewn pirate doll she spent most of the day making yesterday (whilst listening to an audiobook--despite the fact that she
looks like a carbon copy of her father, this is definitely my kid). I can't tell you how much I love this thing--it was all I could do not to steal it from her room last night.

I think all the industry around here is related to the slight fallishness we can smell on the air--we're making home-school plans (more Shakespeare, the American Revolution, a return to our Spanish studies), and I'm sure to have some reports on that in the coming weeks, whether you want 'em or not. And as for all of you industrious ladies, don't forget the deadline for the
Embroidereading is fast approaching--September 1. There's still time, but not much! Can't wait to see what
you're cooking up!

working on the embroideread. egads! just a few days. it'll take me longer to figure out how to join flickr than to finish the embroidery.
She is amazing! That Pirate is a keeper!
They're the cutest shoelaces I ever did see,.... and the pirate - a work of art!
Hello fellow Mainer! I found your blog via So September. I sort of wish I was still living in Portland, but when I graduated from MECA in May, we made the decision to move up to Bangor for cheaper rent while I pay off student loans and get back on my feet. I hope you're enjoying Portland! I love your blog, and will become a daily reader. Nice work! I also do embroidery, so I'm definitely excited to meet someone else in the world - and so close, too! - that shares a common THREAD! Hahaha <3
So glad you found me! I understand what you mean about cheaper rents. Portland is wonderful, but so expensive!
hmm. when you first announced the embroidery project i was super excited. i must not have been thinking clearly, as between then and now i have moved twice (not anticipated) started classes (anticipated) and practically lived on our local busses (not anticipated) all while doing not a lick of embroidery (not anticipated). so... i'm looking forward to seeing what others have done, and for another opportunity- which you must do! and- i am in love with the pirate! i need it!
That pirate is amazing!! I love it so much (and the laces). Wow!!

ok. i was going to play--but other embroideries have pushed past this one..waaa.. still want to see what others have done though. fun!
love the pirate. it is such a joy to watch the imagination and exploration!
I hope when my little girls get older they are as creative, crafty and resourceful as your daughter. She rocks!
I hope you can show your girl Alexander Calder's Circus, if she hasn't seen it already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6jwnu8Izy0 - he'd put shows on for friends with little wire and rag figures like your daughter's. There was a children's book at one point, based on it.
i love that pirate... such a talented kid you have!
