Annabelle and I have been distracted, er, I mean
inspired by some of our favorite online artists in the past few days. We've both been admiring, nay,
drooling over, the magical doll-making of
Elsa Mora. If I didn't know this woman is one of the warmest, loveliest people on the planet, I'd swear she's sold her soul to the devil because
how do you get this astoundingly much talent? I'm asking.

At any rate, she has spurred doll making in miss A., who sculpted this head from paper clay and then spent a good deal of yesterday painting the face with the teensiest brush on earth.

And this morning, after a Bayou Kitchen breakfast with the fam (go, Veggie Homie Plate!), I got right to work on the car from
Sam's brilliant book. I'm thinking some of the figures (if sized down a little perhaps) would make very cool Christmas ornaments. At any rate, the book is terrific and, paired with a little pile of felt, would make the perfect gift for the sewists on your list (or even someone who wants to learn--the projects are doable for beginners but still fun for the more stitch experienced). I swear I'm not making any money off this thing, folks (from the devil or anybody else)--it's just good.

Are you sure that Annabelle hasn't sold her soul to the devil? Because the intricacy of that doll's head is stunning. The eyes most especially. Hope we'll get to see what that dolly becomes!
Yes I agree I would love to see the doll. While I don't want my babies to grow any faster I'm excited to do projects with them. I'm newer to your blog, and have been wanting to ask where do you get your felt? Around here all I can find is the fake acrylic stuff and while it's great for kid projects it's not very nice for the kind of art that you do.
Glad you found me, Jessie! I get 100% wool felt primarily from A Child's Dream Come True, but it can also be gotten from Magic Cabin or Purl Soho. (All these stores have online ordering.) You can also get a lovely, silky wool-blend or a similar bamboo felt (though the color way on that is limited) from Feltorama, and a thicker, woolier blend from Prairie Point Junction. Happy crafting!
dolls are my second obsession! glad to see it has hit others.
The world better be ready for Artist Annabelle!
In a few years I will be proud to say: believe it or not, famous Annabelle used to be inspired by my dollies
Yay!!!
Hello Annabelle and Melissa!
The previous comment was made by your friend Elsita :)

But I had to sign in with my Google account, that's why you didn't get a link directly to my blog.
Ciao!
Hello and thank you, Elsita! When she wakes in the morning, Annabelle will be beyond thrilled to hear your praise of her doll head! ;-)
I just found your blog through Elsita and then I read your bio and I love you already!!! You are inspiring your daughter to do wonderful things and I can't think of anything more important as a mom. The patience to do work like that is harder to find these days in younger people.
Thank you, Bethany, for your kind words. I'm glad you found me--and I love you already, too. :)
