Truth be told, this last one was a bit of a trial. So far I haven't really been a softie designer (though I
am a bit of a softy--ask my dog, who always comes to me for treats when the others refuse her), so that balloon part got sewn and sewn (and maybe cursed a little), and I'm not sure how I feel about the combination of the 3-D in the top hoop with the 2-D in the bottom hoop.

All that said, there's something kind of delightful about the piece as a whole--but I'd say my mixed feelings have led me to the conclusion that I am nearly done making pieces for this show. I think I'll do one more simple something, and then I'll start obsessing over what to say at my opening "talk." And trying on outfits. You know what I'm talking about. I'll be looking at my bottom in everything I own for the next 48 hours.

And then I'll just wear the first thing I tried.

Love love love it: )
That is so cute!!!
Very nice...I like it!
I love it. Seriously, I think it is amazingly charming!
It is amazing, gorgeous and fabulous. Stop with the self-doubt or we'll come over there and tell you your bum looks big in your final outfit!
I know exactly what you mean. I did the same thing with an appliqued elephant for a quilt. After taking so much time sewing it on, I ended up ripping it out altogether.
However, this is super cute. Are you selling it in your Etsy shop? Love it!
I LOVE it! Fabulous!!
Thanks, y'all. And Wendy, you make me laugh!
I just wanted you to know I posted about you, and placed a photo of the little girl in the rain.
Love your work.
Thanks, Marjorie!
I love this, I think it's really original and adorable. That said, if it is truly painful to make, what about a very lightly stuffed applique felt balloon? You could sew overlapping sections of the balloon out of felt and then just put a generous blob of stuffing under it before doing you usual amazing applique? I am really liking these multiple frame pieces, keep up the good work!
Yes, Gabrielle--that makes complete sense! I think I will try one that way!
I absolutely love it! I love hot air balloons, though! I recently made a pin cushion of a balloon, so this is right up my alley. It is really creative.
It's absolutely delightful ! You are so talented !
LOVE IT! It is so sweet and charming and it really should be hanging somewhere in my house.
it's really totally brilliant. i'm going to make a house to contribute to the dream village (it's going onto the to-craft list, so maybe not any time soon) because you're such inspiration...
i think you've outdone yourself. cursing was worth it ;)
love this sooo much! btw, in response to your request for suggestions (too late now, I know) - I always wanted to make a mobile inspired by a postcard I once had. It had a girl's head resting on her hands, elbows akimbo (on a desk or something, one supposes), and an array of clouds above. It sounds a little twee, but there was something about the line drawing that I really liked!
LOVE IT!!!!! (screaming with delight)
I really love this & think the combination of the 3D & 2D works really well. Inspired!
I love the 3d bit of it. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the show.
i feel i get what you tripped on, but -- it's amazing!!! the difference between them lends to a, how do i put this..., a greater acceptance of the adventure she's going on. you channeled it. accept it. your work is Amazing! totally inspiring. i'm grateful you posted it in spite of your wobbling.
Brilliant!
It's absolution fantastic! Well done!
No mixed feelings here. It is beautiful. I love the plushie balloon. And then all those details -- the beret, the glasses and the bunting. Have fun trying on all those outfits.
i adore it, although i am partial to your felty goodness, so can't wait to see what you do with gabrielle's suggestion... please share if you try it :-) you have a way of 3-Ding everything you do.
good luck with the bum looking. it is a trial, but then always makes that first outfit look better after you've seen all the other rejects :-) it is the only reason i am NOT looking forward to nicer weather as i shall have to drag the sad trunk of ill-fitting summery items out of my basement and then spend the actual summer endlessly rotating the 3 things that still look decent/actually sort of fit/don't have holes, bleach spots, stains!
Oh my! I'm in love with this. I would buy this right this instant! Don't doubt it. It is fantastic!
I love it- it's very sweet.
You are amazing! This is perfect! I have a MAJOR thing for hot air balloons. I seriously want this. Are you selling it eventually? lol. email me!
=)
Thanks, Sara Jane--it's going in a show, and if it doesn't sell there, it'll be in my shop eventually. I might be persuaded to make another...maybe!
This one's a no brainer - it's terrific. All the swearing was worth it.
Oh there is no hesitation here - pure and simple joy to look at. I can imagine how fiddly the balloon was - but WOW - the effect is so incredible.
Much luck to you at the show - you will be a huge success - because you are delightful and your pieces really reflect that.
Now stop staring at your bottom:)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! And I will! ;-)
I adore this! You are so creative. I love it!
Yeah, love. No question. Make more! :D
wow... so cute!!!
i really like it:)
I love it!! It's so great. You really come up with the most creative things to put in your hoops.
Hi Melissa -- I'm hosting a craft swap over at my blog http://webloomhere.blogspot.com/ in May. The theme is birds. Would it be okay with you if I posted a photo of your bluebird valentine and then linked to the tutorial on SewMamaSew? (I would have sent you an email about this but could not find an email for you on either of your blogs...)
I look forward to your response. Thanks!

Surfing through blogs and came across yours. Amazing work! I can't imagine how long it must take to make, though :)
Love it! Would not change a thing. The 3-D top with 2-D bottoms works perfectly together.
i think it's extremely cute. i might suggest perhaps adding a little dimention to the basket in the bottom hoop to tie in with the top hoop. even if it's just a layer of batting to give it some definition.
That's a great idea. And I could pretty easily make the basket curve outward even without batting. Putting that in my back pocket for next time!
this is so awesome. i am delighted to stumble upon it. what a fun, fantastic idea. thanks for showing it!

Harika çalışmalarınız var çok beğendim.
I'll echo everyone else.
I love it!!
And I love your words about clothes. You do speak the truth. :)
Thanks, my dear!
