Flowers and Floss

In summer, I want to embroider--just grab a fresh cut of creamy white linen and a sharp pencil and draw what I see, a sketch to be filled in with gorgeous color and texture.
Picking the floss colors is almost the best part, and this morning I'm inspired by a little jelly glass of flowers brought to me by my friend Emily. She and Liz were back-porch lunch guests yesterday, and today the air seems clearer and the table prettier for their having been here. (This is not to mention the nearly-whole, fiendishly-delicious lemon-coconut bundt cake somebody left on the counter--sheesh.)
Is summer putting ideas in your head, too?

i love the floss matched to the flowers. it reminds me, actually, of a birthday present emily once gave me of a crocheted cup holder in colors that precisely matched the le pens she put in the cup -- lovely. hey, you enjoy that cake and only share it with people who are being especially nice to you.

I have loved visiting your blog. Thanks for showing us all your beautifully creative endeavors. I also love seeing your minimalist way of living. Just curious how you do this while homeschooling...the minimalism I mean? Our house is overflowing with books, high quality toys, and lots of arts and craft supplies. I would love to have half of what we have.

Hi, Misty--I don't find home schooling to be incompatible with minimalism, but that may just be because having not-much is just my natural inclination. In terms of books, we make very heavy use of the library. Annabelle has never been a huge player-with-toys, and she's now twelve, so there's no much overflow in that area. As long as we have paper, pens, and pencils, we're usually pretty happy. ;-)

yes, summer IS putting ideas in my head.. but most of them are of the "oh help, the kids are going to make me nutters as soon as school lets out!!" variety. i DO love them dearly but not a one of them is just happy with a pen and paper for longer the 3 minutes. ;-)

i blame mike ;-)

can't wait to see how your crafty ideas take shape.. as always.

i love new floss! I am off to Sicily where I fully intend to make the most of the time to stitch. I am stitching Klimt's Tree of Life for a friend. Hopefully I'll get it finished.

Wow, Orla--both Sicily and the stitching project sound amazing! Have fun!

Hi,

The floss flower has clusters of lavender, blue, pink, or white flowers depending on cultivator. They can also make long lasting dried flowers, one of the most popular of all annual flowers, floss flower is an excellent choice for growing along the edges of flower beds, small puffball flowers can be appreciated. Thanks a lot...
