this is magnificent! one of the things my grandmother would always insist on is that animals are one of the hardest things to sew. it's very difficult to make their faces seem real and soft, instead of mean and hard. she was truly an artist with her embroidery work and could make the most incredible animals, but they took her forever to get "just right".
you've got a great touch - i'm in awe of that dog!
Thank you so much! I was aware, while making him, that I couldn't include too many of the black lines; in actuality, he has a darker face, but too many lines, I think, would have created that hardness your grandmother warned against. I wish I could see some of her work!
holy dukes, m. i know i say this every time, but you just get better and better my friend! sheesh, i would have thought a vegan girl would be against using a REAL dog pelt. ahem ;-) ;-)
I went to college for eleven years to become a professor of literature and creative writing. And then I changed my mind. So I quit my job and emptied my retirement account, and two years ago, I moved with my family to a town on the ocean, a town with a museum and a bookstore, a town with a fabric store and a coffee shop, where artists live. Maybe I'll be one of them. Keep your fingers crossed, and I'll keep you posted.
