January Doings

The first portrait of 2012, in progress, with pups galore.

We are returning to our "school" schedule, both home school and university. This semester, Annabelle is studying reconstruction of the South after the Civil War, a bit of algebra, piano (of course), reading Lord of the Flies, and I've resolved to give her a cooking lesson each week, with the aim of her being able to cook independently in a couple of months. Meanwhile, I'm preparing to teach a course on Apocalypse in American Novels. Cheerful, huh? First, though, I'll give these folks some faces.

You have to share some of Miss A's insight on Lord of the Flies. I really enjoy teaching this book.

Ooh, the apocalypse, that sounds like a great class! Don't hesitate to share with us the reading list...

Yes, will do, Audra.

Sarah--I'm interpreting the theme quite broadly, various apparent "ends of the world," various attempt to make a new world, political, personal, etc. We're starting with Grapes of Wrath, reading Marilynne Robinson's Housekeeping, the graphic novel Maus, A Brief History of the Dead, etc...

Corinne--just hop on over here! And E.--I think three felt dogs would be a lot easier to care for than three real ones. ;-)
